Hord

A graveside service for Robert “Bob” Hord Sr., 82, of Rockdale was held Friday, March 11, 2010, at I.O.O.F. Cemetery with Rev. John Warren of St. John’s United Methodist Church officiating.

Mr. Hord died Tuesday, March 9, in Renaissance Villa in Rockdale.

He was born July 17, 1927, in Maryville, Tennessee, to Fred and Mary Hord.

He married Grace Coffey on June 17, 1949, in First Methodist Church in Alcoa, Tennessee.

A Rockdale resident since 1952, Mr. Hord had been a laboratory metal tester for Alcoa’s Rockdale Operations.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He took a leave of absence from high school to serve and completed high school af ter his discharge.

Mr. Hord was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Rockdale.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Hord, on May 1, 2007; and two sons, Don Travis Hord on Nov. 18, 2009, and Cleve Nevin Hord on Oct. 29, 1977.

Survivors are two sons, Robert Hord Jr. and w ife Joy of Palestine, Michael David Hord of Rockdale; three brothers, Charlie Hord of Palestine, Ray Hord and Tom Hord, both of Alcoa, Tennessee; a sister, Mary Neil of Alcoa, Tennessee; six grandchildren, Lindy, Robert, Jenna, Maggie, Ben and Amber; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Robert Austin.
