Banquet will honor leaders past, presentThis is the week for the 58th annual Chamber Banquet. The Rockdale Chamber of Commerce started in 1952 and has been going strong ever since then.
Some of the past presidents have been Dixie Cleveland, Gail Marrs, Bill Luckey, Bill Galbreath, Vicki Towle, Carol Stewart, Britt Powell and Ellen Means.
Some of the Chamber secretaries have been Betty Harris, Robin Lawson, Diane Jenkins and Sherry Jenkins.
This operation is a place that has always been first and foremost interested in making Rockdale a better place to live.
We are indeed fortunate to have such strong history in our organization. In the early days the Chamber office was located upstairs at the Police Department. It was then moved to the corner of Main and Hwy. 79 where Climate Control AC is now.
In 1995, the Board of Directors bought the house at 1203 W. Cameron from the Coffield Estate and it has been housed at this location ever since.
Through the years, many programs have begun from the Turkey Giveaway to the Community Wide Garage Sale. All projects ever embarked upon were to promote the town and the economy of this town.
I feel fortunate to be a part of the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce and all of the good members who play such a vital role in our organization.
Gold sponsors this year are Alcoa, Central Texas Workforce Solutions, Comfort AC Services, Miller-Starnes Chevrolet-Buick, Luminant, Phillips & Luckey, Veolia, Rockdale Federal Credit Union, Citizens National Bank, Little River Healthcare, Classic Bank, Cappolino, Dodd, and Krebs, and The Rockdale Reporter.
We will award our winners for Citizen of the Year, Outstanding Citizen, Organization of the Year, Business of the Year and Ambassador of the Year.

We have a ribbon cutting for the Rockdale Kidney Center at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 30. Come out and see the new facility during their grand opening.
Until next time I leave you with this: Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain, and most fools do.
