Chamber banquet draws over 300
Caldwell, Ratliff, VFW, photographers honored
Cody Caldwell, Joan Ratliff, VFW Post 6525 and Rockdale Signs & Photography won the top awards as the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce banquet drew a crowd of more than 300 to Rockdale Junior-High School Thursday.
Master of ceremonies Charlie McGregor introduced visitors and recognized elected officials.
Our Local Hero this week is Jesse Johnson.
Jesse has lived in Rockdale for 14 years. He is a retired, disabled vet. He volunteers with the Food Bank each month in Rockdale and he also helps the Christian Fellowship with their food giveaway.

Tigers take third straight track meet title
LEXINGTON—It seems the better the competition, the more they like it.
The Rockdale track team reeled off its third straight meet victory by outscoring rival Cameron 152-114 with another healthy dose of field event prowess with some running events sprinkled on top.
The 15-team field also included Altair Rice, Navasota, LaGrange and Giddings. Full Story
It’s A Hit
The Rockdale Youth Baseball League threw out its first pitch Saturday on a perfect day for baseball and at the same time introduced a complete overhaul of team names which borrowed the most unusual mascots from minor league teams all over the country. Full Story
Banquet, clean up day show volunteer spirit
We had a great week with people working together and that is something we do well in Rockdale. The Chamber Banquet was held on Thursday. We had so many people come to set up and take down for the banquet that it was easy for everyone. Full Story
February jobless rate at 11.1%
Numbers show 1,000 fewer jobless than a year ago
Milam County’s unemployment rate fell back to 11.1 percent in February, down from 11.8 percent the previous month. Full Story
RFCU weathers tough year for financial firms
Almost 300 members met Monday at the Rockdale Knights of Columbus Hall for Rockdale Federal Credit Union’s 40th annual membership meeting.
Board chairman Fred Marshall recapped 2009, a year that saw many financial institutions fail nation-wide, but said RFCU remains in strong condition. Full Story
