Commissioners plan to name new treasurer

CA MERON—Mi lam C ou nty commissioners planned to appoint a new county treasurer in a called meeting at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Treasurer Danica Lara moves up to replace retiring Auditor Jeanie Hrozek on Thursday.

Commissioners were set to appoint a treasurer on March 22 but the person who was to be nominated by the Milam County Democratic Party withdrew at the last minute.

One hurt in Milano area wreck Saturday night

A 57-year-old Conroe man was treated at Central Texas Hospital, Cameron, after a one-vehicle accident on US 79 east of Milano.

The driver was listed as Danny Johnson, according to Trooper Mark Berry who termed vehicle damage “moderate.”

Moderate damage, and no injuries, were reported at 8:15 a.m. Friday on FM 487 northeast of Rockdale, according to Trooper Broderick Sims, when a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Lauren Paez of Rockdale hit a deer.

Steelworkers picnic April 17 at The Ranch

United Steelworkers Local 4895 will host a picnic from 11 a.m. through 5 p.m. Saturday, April 15 at The Ranch, according to David Edmonds, spokesman.

“This event is for active, retired and laid-off Steelworkers and their families,” he said.

Barbecue sausage plates, and all the trimmings, free of charge to Steelworkers and families, will be served,” Edmonds said.

Milano Easter Egg hunt scheduled for Saturday

MILANO—The City of Milano’s annual Easter Egg hunt is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Charlie Martin Park, according to City Secretary Carolyn Vinton.

There will be prizes and refreshments and hunts will be for two age groups, one to five and six to 10,” she said.

Gause VFD fund raiser Saturday at fire station

GAUSE—The Gause Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual fund raiser from 11 a.m. to “sold out” Saturday at the fire station.

Debbie Todd, reporter, said brisket, sausage and trimmings will be on the menu and the event will feature a cake sale.

Carter representatives plan visits to Milam

Representatives from the office of Congressman John Carter will be available April 13 to meet with area residents on the following schedule:

• Cameron, 9 to 11 a.m., Bea’s Kitchen.

• Rockdale, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Workforce Centers of Central Texas, One-Stop Building.

Minerva WSC annual meeting ahead April 5

The Miner va Water Supply Corporation’s annual meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, April 5, in the Minerva Civic Center, according to Linda Masur, spokesperson.

“Members must RSVP by 5 p.m. March 31 to be served the catered meal,” she said. “Letters are being mailed to members advising them of the meeting.”

Dominy benefit ahead April 11 in Lexington

A benefit barbecue to help defray medical costs for Amanda Dominy is set for 11 a.m. April 11 at the Lexington City Park Building.

Dominy is suf fer ing f rom pregnancy complications including a stroke.
