Longhorn show heads ‘em up back to Rockdale

Herds of horns are headed to Rockdale for one of their largest registered Texas Longhorn shows. The public is invited to see some of the best of the breed in the region and experience a little bit of Texas history.

The South Texas Longhorn Association (STLA) and Heart of Texas Longhorn Association (HOT) team up to present the fourth annual Rockdale Registered Texas Longhorn Show on April 9-11 at Fair Park Arena.

Youth are spotlighted on Friday with a 7 p.m. show.

On Saturday, the day kicks off at 10 a.m. with an open haltered female show followed by those impressive haltered trophy steers.

New this year will be a fundraising event for the youth scholarship fund. The horn raffle will let those in attendance guess the total inches of horn on the longhorn that will be on display.

Also featured will be “steer patty bingo” and a silent auction.

Youth will later enter the ring for the second of their three shows to demonstrate cattle and skills for a different judge.

On Sunday, a Cowboy Church service will be held at 9 a.m. and then the final youth show will begin at 9:30 a.m. with everyone starting over with another new judge.
