Wise

Services for Vel Kline Weise, 80, of Troy were held Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Chapel with Rev. Roy Dillard and Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Burial was in Liberty Cemetery near Milano.

Mr. Wise died Saturday, March 27, at his home in Troy.

A Troy resident since 1989, he was born Oct. 1, 1929, in Cameron to Ira Vel and Oleta (Modesette) Wise.

He married Minnie Lee Littlejohn on Oct. 24, 1950, in Paris, Texas.

At age 19, Mr. Wise began working for Southern Pacific Railroad in Houston. He later transferred to San Francisco, California, where he became vicepresident of finance for Southern Pacific.

Mr. Wise was a 1947 graduate of Milano schools and attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos.

He was a member of Liberty Community Church which his family helped build in 1925.

Mr. Wise was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Milton Carol Wise, on Oct. 4, 2009.

Survivors are his wife, Lee Wise of Troy; a brother, Glenn Wise and wife Dot of Universal City; a sister, Joyce Ball and husband Eldon of Milano; and a sister-in-law, Ann Wise of Rockdale.

Pallbearers were Jed Martin, Colin Wise, Daniel Word, Eldon Ball Jr., John Modesette and Rich Modesette.
