New scholarship slated by Crown Garden Club

The Crown Garden Club is offering a new scholarship this year to an R HS senior w ith plans to study horticulture or a related field.

Application forms are available with the RHS counselors and should be returned to Peggy Cooke, 1001 Cady Road, Rockdale, TX 76567 no later than April 15.

The scholarship will be paid to any accredited two or four year college or university or any vocational technical school.

Cooke said the scholarship will be based on need, academics, leadership and community service and requirements will include a br ief essay on the student’s reasons for wanting/ needing the scholarship.

Reading club accepting scholarship paperwork

Applications are now available for the annual Bootsie Peebles Memorial Scholarship, awarded by the Linwood Acres Garden Club.

Entry forms are available at The Reporter, in the RHS counselors’ office or by calling Elizabeth Holloway at 446-2168.

Deadline to apply is Friday, April 16. Applicants must be pursuing a career in a field related to medicine

“Age is not a factor for eligibility,” Holloway said. “Seniors in high school or adults returning to school are encouraged to apply.”

THS sophomore class fish fry Sunday

Thorndale High School sophmore class members will host a fund-raiser fish fry on Sunday, April 18, class sponsor Julie Downs said.

The meal will begin at 11 a.m. at the Thorndale Fireman’s Hall and cost $8 per plate. They are available for dine in or carry out.

Rockdale senior photos needed for video

Projection Graduation will be here before you know it. If you would like your RHS senior in the video, please submit photos (one baby, one elementary, one junior high and one senior picture) to Pat Elliott at the junior high, Laura Gibbs at the high school or email them to James Elliott.

Please put the student’s name on any pictures. You may also submit additional group pictures or videos. Instructions are available at the high school office. Photos may be sent by mail, emailed to info@splakstudio.com, or uploaded to the server.

First ever THS band banquet set April 29

The community is invited to attend the first annual Thorndale band banquet on Thursday, April 29 at the Thorndale Fireman’s Hall, according to band director Scott Simmons. The banquet will start at 7 p.m. and include a chicken fried steak meal for $8 a plate.

The evening’s program will include band awards and the band’s state marching contest performance video. Tickets for the event are available for purchase at the THS Band Hall, high school office, Thorndale City Hall and the Thorndale branch of Rockdale Federal Credit Union.

Senior yearbook ad deadline is May 1

A reminder to all Rockdale HS senior parents that The Lair staff is selling senior brag ads to be included in the 2010 yearbook. “Honor your student with a message and congratulations that will be captured in their senior book,” Linda King, yearbook sponsor said.

Prices are: 1/8 page, $30; 1 /4 page, $60; 1 /2 page, $120; whole page, $200. Pages can be personalize with your message and creative design or let the design staff work their magic, King said.

Deadline for brag ad submission is May 1.

Milano OAP headed to regional contest

HEMPSTEAD–Milano High School’s One-Act Play production of “Picnic” by William Inge advanced to the next level at area contest held April 8 at Hempstead High School. They w ill now compete at regionals on Saturday, April 24 at Blinn College.

Milano students Sam Walker and Christin Catalina were named the contest’s Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively. Hayden Wilson was awared an All-Star Cast nod, while Chelsey Burgess and Thomas Sanders earned Honorable Mention All- Star Cast medals.

Health careers summer camp set at Baylor

The Brazos Area Health Education Center (AHEC) will host a Health Careers Summer Camp, Monday, June 7 through Thursday, June 10 at Baylor University in Waco.

Through field trips, exposure to hands-on activities and interaction with healthcare professionals, students will learn about exciting careers in the field of healthcare as well as health career preparation programs.
