Kellen is Opry headliner

Sat u rd ay is t he mont h ly Milano Opry at the Civic Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show gets started at 7. Headliner is Jake Kellen of Warda and special guest is April Arnold of Temple. Admission is $5. House band menbers are Billy Barnett, Johnny Towsley, Paul Schlesinger, Glenn Schneider, John Clark Towsley, Larry Rochelle and Lynn Martin. Bailey Bank Building will provide concessions and pies.

The Opry plans a big first anniversary show on May 15 at the MHS cafetorium. Hamburgers and chicken breast sandwiches with french fries will be served starting at 4 p.m., prepared by Richard Schneider of Thorndale.

Headliner for that show is Justin Todd Herod of Palestine, 2007 Christian Country Music Awards Male Vocalist of the Year. Special guests will be Mason Roach, 9, of Conroe and Allyson Steinbecker of Milano.

Master’s Gateway Church will serve sausage wraps and ice tea on Saturday, April 24 starting at noon, along with live music. Pastors are Ross and Beverly Cunningham. The church is located at the US 79 and FM 3242. Watch for signs. FMI, call 979-280-5817.

Milano High’s One-Act Play advanced from area to regional last week and will next perform at Blinn College on Saturday, April 24. Earning area awards were: Sam Walker, best actor; Christin Catalina, best actress; Hayden Wilson, all-star cast; Chelsey Burgess and Thomas Sanders, honorable mention allstar cast. Directors are Susan Meyer and Sherry Lagrone.

Milano VFD Ladies Auxiliary will hold its annual garage sale April 29-30 and May 1 at the Civic Center. Donations are still needed. For more information or to drop off donations, call Jane Yoakum, 446-5110, Lois Love, 455-7915 or Carolyn Vinton, 979- 224-0227.

Julie Paniagua is show ing improvement each day from injuries at the district track meet last month. Please keep her and her family in your prayers.

The Lady Eagles softball team will play at Thrall at 7 p.m. Friday, April 16 and will finish their season Tuesday, April 20 when they host Thorndale at 5 p.m. The Eagles baseball team will also be in Thrall at 7 p.m. Friday and then host Thorndale on April 20 at 4:30. Some members of the Milano track team will compete in the area meet on Thursday in Comfort. Good luck to them all.
