Manor’s Acevedo new band director

Acevedo Acevedo Adrian Acevedo, band director at Manor High School for the past six years, has been named the new director of the Rockdale ISD’s Big Blue Band.

School trustees unanimously voted to hire Acevedo in an executive session at the conclusion of a lengthy board meeting on Monday (see separate story).

Acevedo replaces Joe Ray who resig ned in Ma rch. The new director’s contract will begin Aug. 1.

Acevedo is a native of La Joya in the Rio Grande Valley. He has been a band director for the past 11 years and in the music education field for 15.

After graduating from Southwest Texas State (now Texas State) he was an assistant director for four years in the Freer and Premont ISDs.

He was band director for five years in the Bishop CISD and for one semester in the Bovina ISD before coming to Manor.

Acevedo’s Manor bands have qualified for area competition several times including in the Association of Texas Small School Bands Outstanding Performance Series.

Acevedo, and his w ife Erin, have four children, ages 8, 7, 6 and one.

“We’re excited about coming to Rockdale and becoming a part of this community,” Acevedo said.
