Walk Across Texas draws 356 participants
Teams across Milam County are well on their way to walking the estimated 830 miles to “walk across Texas” during an eight-week program.
Currently, 27 community teams and 157 students in the Gause ISD are participating. Full Story

Census workers will begin door-to-door visits in Milam County next week as the once-every-10-years nose count shifts into high gear.

Doors’ exhibit in Austin features art of Rockdale graduate Kennard
An exhibit of paintings entitled “Doors” will be held May 8 through June 5 at studio2gallery in Austin, featuring the art of Mar y Jo Kederis Kennard, a 1955 graduate of Rockdale High School.
“Doors” is a national juried exhibit of selected artists, and Mrs. Kennard is the feature artist. Full Story

The annual Spring Sweep in dow ntow n Milano is set for Saturday, May 1. The day will include a mini rod tractor pull, huge garage sale and lots of good food. Milano VFD Ladies Auxiliary will hold its annual spring garage sale April 29-30 and May 1 during the Spring Sweep at the Milano Civic Center. The sale will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 29 and 30 and then from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 1. Full Story

Dewberry Jam event raises $7,000 for park
When they tell you running and walking constitute a lifetime sport, they’re talking about the 11th annual Dewberry Jam 5K, held in perfect weather Saturday morning in Rockdale.
Overall run winner was Juan Rubio, a member of the Rockdale High School track team. Full Story
Ceremony held for cemetery marker unveiling
