Second warning issued over Canadian-based prize scam

For the second time in less than a month, Sheriff Dav id Greene has issued a warning that a Canadian-based scam is targeting Milam County.

Greene said letters purportedly from “Trustnet Financial” or “RBC Financial” are advising Milam residents they have won a “consumer protection draw” for $50,000.

“The individual also receives a fake check for $3,950 and are asked to send $2,950 back as tax,” he said.

Chief Deputy Ted Retchloff has contacted the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and confirmed part of the scam originates in Canada.

“If you get one of these letters bring it to the sheriff’s department or your local law enforcement agency,” Greene said.
