Health careers summer camp set at Baylor
The Brazos Area Health Education Center (AHEC) will host a Health Careers Summer Camp, Monday, June 7 through Thursday, June 10 at Baylor University in Waco.
Through field trips, exposure to hands-on activities and interaction with healthcare professionals, students will learn about exciting careers in the field of healthcare as well as health career preparation programs.

Rockdale Junior High is excited to participate in a reading celebration. The Texas Reading Initiative goal is to have every child in Texas become a successful reader.
To this end, ESC Region VI is coordinating the Eleventh Annual all-region reading day we’ve called Everyone READS Day and RJH English classes will be participating on May 6.
Students will be allowed to dress up as their favorite character and bring books and magazines to read. Students from the High School will also be on hand to read their UIL Prose/Poetry selections. In addition, students will have on display a book report of their favorite selection.
Region VI has set a goal of reading 450,000 or more books on one day. Students will be allowed to dress up as their favorite character and read during their class. Contact Kathryne Roddam if you are interested in Reading to a class. 512-430- 6068.
RJH book fair ‘Family Night’ Thursday
Students from Rockdale Junior High will continue their special Book Fair from Scholastic through Friday, according to Pat Elliott, book fair chairperson.
There will be a Family Night at the book fair from 4-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 6. Parents can also purchase items off their child’s classroom wish list.
The book fair will be open each day from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. and feature a wide range of books for young teens and adults, including mystery and adventure novels, fantasy trilogies, sports guides and the latest bestsellers from more than 150 publishers.
The fair will also have books available for the younger reader and a selection of books in Spanish. Parents, children, teachers, and the community are invited to attend.
Honor roll breakfast Fridat at RHS
The Rockdale Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) and National Honor Society will host an Honor Roll breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Friday, May 7 in the high school cafeteria, NHS sponsor Deborah Dean said.
The breakfast is for high school students on the 80 and above honor roll. Parents of students on the honor roll are encouraged to attend, Dean said. Breakfast breads, donuts, sausages, juice and coffee will be served.
Milano’s OAP public performance Friday
Milano High School’s regional qualifying One-Act Play cast and crew will perform their awardwinning play “Picnic” by William Inge at 7 p.m. Friday, May 7 in the high school cafetorium, OAP director Susan Meyer said.
Admission will be $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and students. There will also be a baked goods silent auction. This will serve as the spring fund-raiser for theatre group, Meyer said.
May attendance incentives at RHS
Rockdale High School is offering attendance incentives for the month of May, principal Chad Jones said.
“We will offer weekly incentives, as well as a monthly incentive. An example of a weekly incentive will be that students who have perfect attendance every day, every period from May 3-7 will get out of their last class 30 minutes early on Friday, May 7,” Jones said. Various weekly incentives will also be offered throughout the month of May.
“We are also offering a monthly incentive for students who have perfect attendance, every day, every period from May 3 through May 27,” Jones said. “Those students will be given an offcampus lunch on May 27. We want to make sure local patrons are aware of this so they can plan for students to come eat lunch on May 27.”

MHS senior class sets ‘Miss Globe’ contest
The senior class at Milano High School will sponsor a “Miss Globe” pageant at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11 at the school’s cafetiorium, according to class sponsor Susay Meyer. Admission is $3 and proceeds will benefit the senior class.
Contestants are be Tevin Gates, Michael Griffin, Christian Serna, Matthew Jentsch, Sam Walker, Ryan Karl and Jordan Hughes.
