Local students compete this week at state UIL meet

Corolyn Holub, a Rockdale High School senior, and four Thorndale students will be at the University of Texas at Austin this week to compete in the University Interscholastic Leagues’ state aca- demic meet.

Holub Holub Holub placed first in feature writing during the Class 3A Region III held last month in Brenham. She will compete Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Joe C. Thompson Conference Center. This will be the second straight year for Holub to compete at the state meet in this event.

Thorndale’s Jeanene Tomecek will compete in two events at the state meet in Class A. She was seocnd at the regional contest in ready writing and is also a member of the THS science team that was first at regionals. Other science team members are Carl Kroeger, Vaughn Stockton and Matt Larkin.

Tomecek will compete in ready writing at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday, May 8 at Robert A. Welch Hall. She will then join her team at 11 a.m. in the same hall for the science contest.
