SPIRIT OF ‘76

There was a lot of 1976 in the Texas Star Plaza parking lot Saturday as several members of the 1976 Rockdale Tiger state championship football team returned for a benefit honoring teammate Garry White who is battling cancer. The event raised between $10,000 and $11,000. From left, White, Robert Luetge and James “Tuck” Russell share some happy memories with former coach Lew Simmonds. White and Luetge were backfield running mates in 1976 and Russell was a defensive lineman. Simmonds was an assistant football and track coach. White and Luetge were members of the 1977 track team which also won the state title. See page 1C, 3C.
