Former teacher liked tributes to PerryDear editor,
I finally finished reading the excellent stories and contributions by the late George Sessions Perry. This was very enjoyable, and history that every citizen of Rockdale should be proud of.
I also read about the many accolades for The Reporter, and wish to compliment you and your staff for same. I look forward each week to receiving my paper.
I also enjoyed Kennedy Cooke- Garza’s article on “Keep Austin Weird.” She is going to be an excellent reporter.
Oh yes, to further mention, I read the comments from Fate A rnw ine in the Perr y special section. It is so ironic that I received a wonderful summary of his life works from him, the week before.
I remember the “typewriters,” for I was the first and only teacher of typing at Aycock. Those typewriters and comments from various students have given me ideas for a story about the typewriter, for I have heard from so many of former students, who stated: “You were really hard on us in typing, but I want to thank you, for I received jobs without further training,” and another says, “because of your insistence in our typing class, I have never had to go on the battlefront.”
I am just an old “proud” and “thankful” retired teacher, but students like Reporter staffers and others keep me focused. Thanks!
Keep up the good work! Susie Sansom-Piper email@example.com
