Jenkins succeeds Birkhead as trustee president
An era ended Monday for the Rockdale ISD board of trustees as Lee Jenkins replaced James Birkhead as school board president.
Birkhead did not seek re-election to his Place 5 position this spring, ending a 15-year tenure on the board, the last eight as president. Full Story
Steelworkers’ union passes strike vote
Two officers of United Steelworkers of America Local 4895 are in Cincinnati, Ohio, this week as part of USW’s negotiating team with Alcoa.
Troy Hirt, Local 4895 president, and Troy Ackler, vice-president, are part of the USW delegation which is trying to reach a new labor contract before the current one expires May 31. Full Story
Wilde, Holub lead RHS class of 2010
Annie Wilde is the valedictorian and Corolyn Holub the salutatorian of the 114-member Rockdale High School graduating class of 2010.
Both will deliver speeches during commencement exercises set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 4, at Tiger Field.
Wilde compiled a 4.0909 grade-point average during her four-year RHS career, according to Principal Chad Jones. Full Story

Richards Memorial Hospital’s third annual health fair, with the theme “Healthy You, Healthy Family, Healthy Community,” will be held Saturday on the hospital grounds, according to Matt Kruse, vice-president of marketing and communications for Blackhawk Healthcare.
