Thorndale regional finals series set

D'Hanis tough test for Bulldogs

  The field is set for the Class A Region IV baseball finals where Thorndale and D'Hanis will play for a trip to the UIL state tournament.

  The Thorndale Bulldogs (21-10) and D'Hanis Cowboys (23-7) will play the first game of the series at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 27 at San Antonio ISD's Burbank Stadium.  The second game will be played at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 29 at Olson Field in College Station.  The third game will follow if needed.

  The Bulldogs defeated Flatonia in their quarterfinals series 2-0 and 7-6. D'Hanis had to go three games with Ben Bolt in their region quarters series, 10-3, 2-3 and 9-8.  Thorndale is the 26A champion, while the Cowboys captured the 30A crown.

  These same two teams collided in the regional finals in 2009 were Thorndale came out on top 5-4 and 3-2 to sweep the series.  Each team has been to the state baseball tournament five times.

  Cowboy players to watch include pitchers Kaleb Keith and Anthony Guerra.
