RHS principal leaving for superintendent job

Jones Jones Chad Jones, first principal in the “new” Rockdale High School, is leaving after two years.

Dr. Howell Wright, Rockdale ISD superintendent, said Monday that Jones has been named the lone superintendent finalist in the West Hardin County Consolidated Independent School District. Hardin County is north of Beaumont.

Dr. Wright said Jones has not yet resigned and the school board did not consider a resignation on Monday.

“The way it works is that a school board designates a finalist and 21 days from that date it can formally hire the person,” he said.

“The West Hardin County school board met last week so it will be into June before they can formally hire him,” Dr. Wright said. “At that point we would act.”

Jones, a former basketball coach, led his Tecumseh, Oklahoma, team into the state tourney in 1985.

After 13 years in Oklahoma he moved into administration and came to Texas, first as an assistant principal at A&M Consolidated High School and then as principal at Southwood Valley.

He was Southwood Valley principal when he was hired at Rockdale in the spring of 2008.

“We have seen several huge changes in the past two years,” he said. “We opened the awesome new high school, went to the middle college approach, went to an 8-period day, and we’ve closed campus for lunches.

“Our proudest accomplishment over the past two years was earning a TEA Recognized Campus rating, which was Rockdale High School’s first since the inception of TAKS,” Jones said. “This is a tribute to an outstanding, hard working staff, great students and supportive parents. I want to thank Allen Sanders, April Eschberger and Nick Reeves for teaming with me as high school administrators over the past two years.”

“I am proud to have spent two wonderful years here and will forever be a Rockdale Tiger,” he said.
