Thorndale Jamboree coming up Monday
THORNDALE—The Thorndale VFW Post 4009 and Auxiliary will host the monthly Thorndale Country and Gospel Music Jamboree on Monday, May 24 at 7 p.m. at the post home on FM 486 north.
The house band and special guests will perform. “Come early and get some of the delicious foods served by the Auxiliary,” said Marjorie Menzel, publicist. “We’ll have sausage wraps, chicken salad sandwiches, homemade pies and desserts, chips and drinks.” Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for those who want to come early and eat, she said.
Sunshine-n-Shadows Quilt Guild will meet at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 27, at Meadowbrook Baptist Church, according to Eddie Davidson, spokesperson.
“We w ill continue to work on our table runners,” she said. “Visitors are always welcome.”
Genealogy society to hear Stirpes editor
Speaker for the Tuesday, May 25 meeting of the Milam County Genealogical Society will be Melinda Reeves Cagle, editor of Stirpes magazine, the quarterly publication for Texas State Genealogical Society, Inc.
She is also representative for District 6 of the Texas State Genealogical Society, Inc., of which the Milam County Genealogical Society is a member. Mrs. Cagle will be accompanied by her husband, Carrol D. Cagle, MD, who is also a staff member of Stirpes.
Stirpes, which means “A person from whom a family is descended,” is published each March, June, September and December and is available by paid subscription and in local libraries such as the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library in Rockdale. March, 2010 marked the 50th anniversary of Stirpes.
A light meal provided by MCGS members will be served prior to Mrs. Cagle’s program. All genealogy society members, as well as anyone interested in Texas history and genealogy, are invited. VFW Post 6525 Ladies Auxiliary is selling U.S. f lags in a removable square concrete base, full height of 7 feet. Price is $40 per flag.

Cowboy Boxing Club sets bake sale, car wash
CAMERON—The Cowboy Boxing Club will hold a bake sale and car wash on Saturday, May 22 at Brookshire Brothers in Cameron, spokesperson Sharon Beatty said.
The fund-raiser will run from 8 a.m until 2 p.m. Proceeds will be used to help the club purchase a new boxing ring.
