Community grieves after rail accident; memorial fund set up to assist with expenses
Two Rockdale Elementary School second graders died Monday afternoon after the car in which they were riding was hit by a train east of Rockdale.
A four-year-old child, part of the same family, died Tuesday evening at Temple’s Scott & White Hospital. The car’s driver, a 40-year-old Rockdale woman, remains at Scott & White. Full Story

Saenz, psychologist, speaker for RHS graduates
RHS GRADUATION, 7:30 P.M. FRIDAY, JUNE 4, TIGER FIELD
Dr. Adam Saenz, a counselor-psychologist from Bryan, will be commencement speaker for the 114-member Rockdale High School graduating class of 2010.
Graduation exercises are set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 4, at Tiger Field.
The son of blue collar parents, raised by a single mother, he has earned a Ph.D, and done clinical work at two Ivy League schools. Full Story
Alcoa-Steelworkers work toward Monday contract deadline
Alcoa and United Steelworkers continue to meet this week in Cincinnati, Ohio, working toward the Monday deadline when the current labor pact expires.
Alcoa says it continues to negotiate but “continues to prepare for a work stoppage at each of our plants.” Full Story
Memorial Day observance: ceremony, uniforms, jeep
A Memorial Day Observance will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Wolf Park, corner of Milam and Main, downtown.
In addition to military uniforms and weapons from the Civil War through Vietnam, the I&GN Depot across the street will display a Vietnam-era military Jeep with a mounted 50- caliber machine gun. The Jeep is owned by Jimmie Burleyson of Leander. Full Story
