Philippus

Services for Mae Philippus, 88, of Rockdale were held Saturday, May 22, 2010, at First Baptist Church in Rockdale with Rev. Greg Spears of Milam County Cowboy Church and Rev. Jack Chelf of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

Mrs. Philippus died Thursday, May 20, at Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

A Rockdale resident for 58 years, she was born Feb. 21, 1922, in the Bebe community of Gonzales County to W.F. and Emilie F. (Sassmanhausen) Gandre.

She married J.A. Philippus on March 19, 1945, at Monthalia Methodist Church in Monthalia.

Mrs. Philippus was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church in Rockdale.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.A. Philippus, on Aug. 27, 2001; seven brothers, Austin, Sassman, Frank, Bill, Andrew, James and Robert Gandre; and a sister, Bernice Lindeman.

Survivors are two daughters, Vicki Diane Mason and husband Ron of Argyle, Jane Amelia Calk and husband Bill of Rockdale; three grandchildren, Chad Mason of Argyle, Shane Mason and wife Sarah Kathryn of Grapevine, Megan Calk of Rockdale; and two great-grandchildren, Townsend Mason and Hayes Mason.

Pallbearers were Butch Gandre, Wilfred Gandre, L.A. Lindeman, Guy Gandre, John Clark and Bill Clark.

Honorary pallbearer was George Gandre.
