SAN ANTONIO—The Thorndale Bulldogs could not hold on to an early lead and left eight base runners stranded in a 7-5 loss to No. 10 D’Hanis Thursday night at Burbank Stadium in the Class A, Region IV regional semifinals.

The best-of-three series continues Saturday at 4 p.m. at Olsen Field in College Station. A third game will follow if needed.  Senior catcher Tyler Jordan spotted the Bulldogs (21-11) an early lead after driving in three runs in the first two innings on a solo home run in the first and a two-run double in the second.

However, D’Hanis (24-7) put up four runs in the third to grab a 5-3 lead, spurred by pitcher Ryan Goff’s three-run home run. After Thorndale battled back to tie the contest with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth, the Cowboys scored two of their own to secure a 7-5 lead.

The Bulldogs actually put two men on base in the top of the seventh when Shea Maupin (3-for-4) singled and Isaac Leyendecker walked, but the two were left stranded to end the game.

Paxton Jordan (8-2) suffered just his second loss of the season on the mound for Thorndale. Both teams banged out 13 hits.
