Morehead earns double degree at TAMU

Puente Puente COLLEGE STATION–David G. Morehead of Rockdale, recently earned both his masters and bachelor degrees during spring commencement ceremonies at Texas A&M University.

Morehead earned a master of science degree in accounting and also a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting.

Hilker earns degree from Sam Houston St.

HUNTSVILLE–Megan Lee Hilker of Rockdale, received a bachelor’s degree during spring commencement ceremonies at Sam Houston State University.

Hilker earned a bachelor’s of business administration in accounting.

Ellis on Dean’s honor roll at Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION–Toni N. Ellis, senior management major from Rockdale, has been named to the Texas A&M University Dean’s Honor Roll for the spring semester.

The Dean’s Honor Roll recognizes students taking at least 15 semester hours during the spring semester who have maintained a 3.75 or higher grade point (GPR) out of a possible 4.0.

Mynar named to SFA President’s honor roll

NACOGDOCHES–Tanya Mynar, interdisciplinary studies major from Rockdale, has been named to the President’s Honor Roll at Stephen F. Austin State University for the spring semester.

To be eligible for this honor, a student must be enrolled in 12 or more semester hours and maintain a grade point average of 4.0.

Carter on West Texas A&M President’s list

CANYON–Joe D. Carter, freshman accounting major from Rockdale, has been named to the President’s List at West Texas A&M University for the spring semester.

To be eligible for this honor, a student must be enrolled in 12 or more semester hours and maintain a grade point average of 4.0.

Rockdale residents on SHSU honor lists

HUNTSVILLE–Several Rockdale residents have been named to the President’s Honor Roll and Dean’s List at Sam Houston State University for the spring semester.

Megan Lee Hilker, senior accounting major, Jaime Nicole David, junior interdisciplinary studies major, and Thomas J. Merka IV, sophomore mass communications major, were all named to the President’s Honor Roll.

To be eligible for this honor, a student must be enrolled in 12 or more semester hours and maintain a grade point average of 4.0.

Aaron Robert Coker, senior industrial technology-construction management major, along with Hilker, David and Merka, were named to the Dean’s List.

To be eligible for this honor, a student must be enrolled in 12 or more semester hours and maintain a grade point average of 3.5 and above. Puente named to Bryan ISD principal’s job

Jason Puente, a 1997 Rockdale High School graduate, has been named principal at Bryan ISD’s Mary Branch Elementary School.

Puente graduated from Texas A&M University in 2001 with a bachelor of arts in education and then earned a master’s degree in education from Sam Houston State University in 2005. He also earned a mid-management certificate in education in 2005.

He began his teaching career in 2002 at Caldwell ISD as a seventh grade teacher and coach. He moved to Bryan ISD in 2003 and has worked in various teaching and administrative positions before being named principal at Mary Branch.

He and his wife Stacie have twin sons, Bryce and Kade. Puente is currently working on his doctorial degree from Texas A&M in education public school administration (K-12). He is the son of Raymon and Nancy Puente of Rockdale.

RHS mini cheer camp this Friday

This year’s Rockdale High School cheerleader mini cheer camp will be held Friday, June 18 at the Patterson Civic Center in Rockdale, according to cheerleading sponsor Donna Scruggs.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $25 per camper, which will include a T-shirt and gift, Scruggs said. Mini cheer camp is open to girls ages Kindergarten through sixth grade.
