1.15-cent tax hike eyed by school trustees
Rockdale ISD school trustees will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Central Administration Building to adopt a 2010-2011 budget that is calculated on 1.15- cent tax increase.
Karl Kacir, assistant superintendent for business, said the tax rate is currently forecast to jump from $1.2135 to $1.2250.
He said all of that increase is in the budget’s debt service, which will go from 17.35 to 18.50.
“When the (school construction) bonds were issued, the debt payments were structured to increase to match the increasing values at Luminant’s Sandow 5 unit,” he said.
Kacir said debt service payments increased this year by $278,981 to $1,918,403.
“Tax values increased, but not enough to offset the increased cost of debt service,” he said. “The annual debt service will remain at around $1,920,000 for future years.”
Employment of a high school principal is an agenda item.
Chad Jones resigned as RHS principal last month to accept an administrative post.
In addition to adopting a budget, agenda items for Monday include an architect’s update on the baseball field project, purchase of athletic equipment and a report on the superintendent’s Student Advisory Committee.
