Masters Peace Quartet to sing here Sunday

First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will present The Master- Peace Quartet on Sunday, June 27 during 10:40 a.m. worship. “The public is invited,” Minister Earl Presley said. The church is located on Bell Street between Burleson and Scarbrough.

“The group’s inspirational appeal has given them the platform to excite Christians and has created an ever increasing demand for their special blend of talents” he said. “All are welcome regardless of denomination.”

Rising Star to present Gospel Explosion 2010

Rising Star Baptist Church will present “Gospel Explosion 2010” at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 10 at the Institute for Teaching God’s Word, 103 Mulberry Street. Featured will be the Rising Star Workshop Choir, directed by Carol Smith, vocalist/ musician of Longview.

Special guests/performers will be Dr. Vanessa Beaumont, mezzo soprano, Round Rock, accompanied by Pastor Fred Warren, Hutto; Rickey Johnson, musician, Palestine; Vann Johnson, percussion, Palestine; Rising Star Paise Dancers and combined choirs.

Local choir members are invited to participate in the workshop choir and should attend the first rehearsal at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 6 at the Institute for Teaching God’s Word.

Tickets ($10) may be purchased in advance from church members and will be available at the door. Proceeds go to the Rising Star Worship/ Ministries Building Fund.

Allen AME to celebrate 135th year on Sunday

Allen AME Church, 216 East 3rd Street, will host its 135th anniversary and homecoming at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 27. Guest speaker will be Rev. Winfred Tyler. “The public is invited,” said Rev. George Morgan, pastor.

Catholic youth BBQ chicken sale Sunday

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church youth group will sell one-half barbecue chickens for $5 each on Sun- day, June 27 at the KC Hall.

“These students are raising money to attend World Youth Day in Spain,” Simpson said.

Garage sale—St. Joseph’s youth group will hold a garage sale on Saturday, July 10. They are currently accepting donations of gently used items (no clothes, please).

Church invites public for gospel singing

MILANO—Master’s Gateway Church in Milano invites the public for gospel singing on Saturday, June 26 from 2 until 4:30 p.m. “Bring your gospel songs or instrument and join us,” said Pastor Ross Cunningham. “There will be a band from Waco and refreshments will be served,” he said. Next men’s breakfast July 13 at St. John’s

A community men’s fellowship breakfast is held from 7 to 8 a.m. each second Tuesday, rotating between several local churches.

Purpose is to allow men of Christian faith to meet for fellowship, food and a brief devotion.

Next breakfast will be July 13 at St. John’s United Methodist Church fellowship hall.
