Pollination is a simple concept. Pollen is carried from one flower to another flower by insect, animal, or wind for fertilization to create seeds and fruits. Not so difficult to understand.

There were 108 eligible entries and the photos were so creative and beautiful that it was often difficult to rank them and assign awards. Full Story
TAHC, A&M vets team up

YEP, IT’S THE ‘KILL A FELLA’ KIND
Highland Street resident Tim Storey killed this coral snake, plus two others last week in his backyard. He also killed a copperhead last summer at his residence, which backs up to wooded areas in north-eastern Rockdale. “I just want people to know that these poisonous snakes are active this year,” he said. Milam grand jury indicts 23 during Thursday session
CAMERON—Milam County grand jurors returned 23 indictments and one no-bill on Thursday as Milam court scheduled return to normal after three weeks of Alcoa-Luminant litigation.
Prosecutor Kerry Spears listed indictments as follows:
• Daniel Ray Cain II, 26, Rockdale, evading arrest with a motor vehicle. Full Story
It may not be fall in Vermont but sum - mertime in Rockdale isn’t too bad either when the crape myrtles are in full bloom. And so they are this week in many places around town, including this one on Davilla across from the Kay Theatre. Crape myrtle is the term applied to a group of about 50 related trees and shrubs which flourish in warmer climates. Full Story
Summer arrives but it’s no 2009...yet
Summer officially arrived in Rockdale on Monday but, so far, June, 2010, has been downright Arctic compared to one year ago.
Through Tuesday there still has not been a 100-degree reading this year in the U. S. Weather Service thermometer at KRXT-FM.
Nobody’s searching for winter coats just yet. Highs have been in the mid to high 90s for three weeks. Full Story
Local group to headline platoon ‘farewell’ Saturday
Rockdale-based band Elixir 100% Pure will headline a Saturday festival at Pancho & Lefty’s in Hare that will honor deploying soldiers from Fort Hood’s 1st Platoon, 3rd Cavalry Regiment. Full Story
Main Street applications available online
AUSTIN — The Texas Historical Commission (THC) is now accepting applications from small, urban and recertified communities for participation in the Texas Main Street Program. Hearne airport set to host radio-controlled airplanes
The Hearne Municipal Airport will host “Texas Unlimited” giantscale, radio-controlled air races Thursday through Sunday.
It marks the first time in 10 years that the international competition has been held at the airport.
Organizers said “kids of all ages are welcome to attend and have some fun with the whole family at 200 miles per hour. Full Story
