Local group to headline platoon ‘farewell’ Saturday

Rockdale-based band Elixir 100% Pure will headline a Saturday festival at Pancho & Lefty’s in Hare that will honor deploying soldiers from Fort Hood’s 1st Platoon, 3rd Cavalry Regiment.

Eight acts will perform from 1 p.m. to 1 a.m. for soldiers and their families. Donations will offset costs of the entertainment and the cost of food and drinks for soldiers and their families, said Bobby Buchanan, Elixir singer. The soldiers will leave soon for a year-long deployment in the Middle East.

“This is like a going away party,” Buchanan said, “and we hope people w ill come show support fore our troops that are leaving.”

The schedule is as follows: 1-2p.m., Trey Haney; 2-4 p.m., Just Add Water; 4-6 p.m. Running Ragged; 6-8 p.m., Chad Boyd with Magic Girl; 8-10 p.m., Ryan Davis and the Stacey Steger Band; 10-11 p.m., Jeff Thomison; 11-11:30, Dividion Compound; 11:30-1 a.m., Elixir 100% Pure.
