‘Citizenship Day’ set July 12 with Milam Farm Bureau
This will be a first for the 4-H program. On July 15, you will have an opportunity to expand your food and nutrition knowledge as well as taste food dishes from India with a cooking school, set for July 15.

Our host and speaker will be Yaminie Bhakta. Mrs. Bhakta will demonstrate several dishes as she shares information on special seasonings and foods.

Your snacks and lunch will be Indian Cookery items prepared by participants and Mrs. Bhakta.

Contact the Extension Office to sign up. The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Budget Host Motel, 102 Lafferty Ave. in Cameron (on the Cameron side of the bridge).

Pre-registration is needed by July 12 to prepare handouts and food needs. Leaders and parents can also attend with 4-H’ers.

If you are interested in the workings of our county, state and national government, plan to attend the 4-H Citizenship Day on July 12 sponsored by the Milam County Farm Bureau.

The day will start at 9 a.m. at the Cameron Chamber of Commerce meeting room. After a brief introduction, the group will tour the restored historic buildings before attending the Milam County Commissioners Court meeting. At the court meeting, the group can observe the local government in action.

At 10:30 a.m. Congressman John Carter will meet with the group for an informal presentation and question and answer session. This will be a great opportunity to meet your Congressional Representative in Washington, D.C. He will be able to share insight on the national side of government.

The Milam County Farm Bureau will provide a pizza lunch for everyone and then introduce an interactive, computer driven exercise called Congressional Insights. You will play the role of an United States Congressman and make decisions on issues important to the people they represent.

The event will conclude at 3 p.m. Milam County Farm Bureau looks forward to your participa- tion in this informative event on Monday, July 12. Sign-up to attend by contacting the Extension Office or Milam County Farm Bureau at 254-697-6488 or Durwood Tucker at 512-898- 2727. This is your chance to learn about your government and how you can make a difference.
