Thorndale BBQ Cookoff ahead this weekend

THORNDALE—It’s that time again. They’ll be cooking, dancing and trying to keep cool this weekend at the the 20th annual Thorndale Volunteer Fire Department Barbecue Cookoff.

Activities include a softball tourney, dances and, of course, lots of cooking.

Most activities are Saturday and all events are at the Thorndale City Park.

Dances will be 8 p.m. to 12-midnight Friday with People’s Choice and 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday featuring Green Whiskey.

Miss Thorndale The new Miss Thorndale will be crowned at 7 p.m. Friday in the middle school cafetorium.

In addition to Miss Thorndale (grades 9-11) there is competition in six other age divisions with the youngest three featuring boys and girls.

COOKOFF SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Friday-Sunday All day— Softball tourney.

Friday

8 p.m. to 12-midnight— Dance, People’s Choice.

Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.— Arts and crafts, food booths.

10 to 11 a.m.— 42 Tourney registration, followed by tourney at 11.

11 a.m.— Firemen’s Auxiliary turkey and dressing dinner begins.

11:30 a.m. to 12-noon— Junior washer (ages 8 to 14) pitching registration, followed by tourney at 12:15.

11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.— Horseshoe registration followed by tourney at 1 p.m.

11:30 a.m.— Opening ceremonies with Miss Thorndale and her court.

4 p.m.— Announcement of cookoff winners.
