Demolition contractor: ‘99.9 percent of materials being recycled’
Alcoa’s Sandow Power Plant Units 1, 2 and 3, which provided power to the Rockdale Operations smelter for 52 years are no more.
The three units have been taken down by Dixie Contractors, which plans to vacate its Rockdale Operations worksite by July 31, give or take a few days, according to Claude Hendrickson, Dixie owner. Full Story

Rockdale’s 911 service isn’t going away but major changes are in the works and city officials are facing the task of balancing potential increased costs against possible increased response times in emergencies.

Gause resident survives ‘killer’ bee attack Saturday
A 47-year-old Gause man mowing his yard Saturday afternoon survived an attack by Africanized Bees.
Sue Taylor, member of the Gause Volunteer Fire Department, said Mike Barber still had about 50 bees in his hair when volunteers responded to his home, CR 352 and Plum Street.
She said Barber had been stung more than 100 times. Full Story

Sunday is the Fourth of July and almost everyone is taking Monday off to observe the holiday.
There may also be a few Friday closings. The

Fireworks Friday in Cameron park
Citizens National Bank will sponsor the county’s free fireworks display at dark Friday at Cameron’s Wilson-Ledbetter Park.
The fireworks display alternates annually between Rockdale and Cameron. Full Story
Development board okays web site, 2010-11 budget
$21,000 okayed for comprehensive site; new budget set at $334,585
The new Municipal Development Board, and funds from hotel-motel tax revenue and municpal court technology fund, will pay one-third each for a $21,000 comprehensive web site for the city and development entity. Full Story
BENEFITS FOR TERRI
Everybody, including McKenna Robertson, pitched in to raise more than $2,400 for wreck victim Terrilyn Williams in a benefit barbecue at City Hall on Saturday, and more benefi ts are set this weekend. Williams (R) was present Saturday. She was the sole survivor of a train-car crash May 24 east of Rockdale which claimed the lives of three young boys. She was their relative and legal guardian. New principal turns down Rockdale ISD
The search for a new Rockdale High School principal isn’t over after all.
Harry “Luke” Allison, assistant principal at Groesbeck High School, who was hired Monday, June 21 by Rockdale ISD trustees, turned down the job after visiting Rockdale two days later. Full Story
