RHS Big Blue Band reunion set Aug. 14

Reliving the glory days of the 120-piece marching band, a reunion of the Rockdale High School Big Blue Band has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14 at The Ranch, according to Jim Perry, former RHS band director, reunion coordinator.

The reunion movement began with former students of directors Bill Grusendorf, Don Thoede and Perry, he said. All three of those directors are expected to attend.

Annual Pleasant Hill homecoming July 11

The annual Pleasant Hill community homecoming will be held Sunday, July 11 at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery grounds, according to Bill Avrett, spokesman.

“The gathering will start at 11 a.m. and a covered dish luncheon will follow. Attendees are asked to bring lawn chairs and a covered dish,” he said.

All interested persons are invited.

Davis-Locklin-Mouldin planned this weekend

The 28th Davis-Locklin-Mouldin family reunion will be held July 2-3 at the Patterson Civic Center, and include a “gala” on Friday, July 2 and the picnic Saturday, July 3, with church services on Sunday.

Morgan family reunion scheduled for July 10

MILANO—The W. D. Morgan reunion will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 10 at the Milano Senior Citizens Center.

W. D. Morgan had eight sons, including Jeff Morgan, Travis Morgan, Lee Morgan, and Womack Morgan. All descendants and family friends are invited.

RHS Class of 1970 sets 40th-year event July 10

The RHS Class of 1970 will hold its 40th-year reunion on Saturday, July 10 at the Patterson Civic Center, according to Tom Guthrie, spokesman.

Doors will open at 3 p.m. and the reunion will include a meal and door prizes. “We welcome teachers and friends from other classes to come and visit,” Guthrie said.

Mack family reunion scheduled on July 31

The 2010 Ollie and Versie Mack family reunion has been scheduled for Saturday, July 31 in the Patterson Civic Center in Rockdale. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. and a barbecue lunch will be served at 1 p.m.

Reunion fee is $40 per family (up to 5 members), $5 extra per family member, $10 for senior citizens and $15 for guests. Please pay in advance or fee will be collected at door.

The 46th Appelt reunion was held June 6 at Appelt’s Hill Hall in Hallettsville. About 175 people were served a prepared lunch of stew and sausage, along with side dishes and desserts brought by members.

Appreciation was expressed to the following: Stew/sausage crew, Tommy Macha, Bobby Strauss, Robert Svetlik Jr.; kitchen crew, Bettye Appelt, Kevin and Mary Bright, Helen Appelt, Margaret Svetlik, Al and Judy Grones; prize team, Hilmer and Margaret Appelt; reunion officers: President Otto Brogger Jr., VP Lou Svetlik, treasurer Bettye Appelt, historians Ann Birkner and Judy Grones; secretary Linda Ward.

Pam Reinhart was honored for 15-plus years of maintaining genealogy documents. Thanks also went to Scott Brogger for fans in picnic area, and to Lou Svetlik for the sound system.

A ovation was given to all military personnel attending. World War II veterans were remembered as June 6 was the 66th anniversary of D-Day.

Appelt family members who passed away since the last reunion were remembered: Louise Z. Appelt, 94, San Antonio; Gladys Ann Stratmann, 82, Spring; Benjamin August Reinhart, 79, San Antonio; Dennis D. Appelt, 72, Hallettsville; Gus “Cudlum” Werner, 84, Hallettsville; Gerry Lee Jalufka, 65, Yoakum.

Oldest attendee was Victoria Orsak, 92, of Schulenburg. Youngest was Ryan Svetlik, 11 weeks, of Victoria. James and Mae Rother, Hallettsville, were married the longest, 57 years; Jason and Kourtney Mertz, Houston were the newest married, 8 months.

Largest family present was the Ann Birkner family with 39 members. Sharon Appelt of Seattle, Washington traveled the farthest.

Next year’s reunion will again be held at Appelt’s Hill Hall on the first Sunday in June.—Linda Ward, secretary
