Blood drive Thursday at sheriff’s department

The Milam County Sheriff’s Department will host a Scott & White Blood Center blood drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday.

All donors will receive a free, insulated 6-pack cooler/lunch cooler and 12 free wings from Buffalo Wild Wings, according to Cindy McBee, spokesperson.

“Each will also have a chance to win a pair of Houston Astros tickets and a $500 gift card of your choice, donated by area Lions clubs,” she said.

Kay Theatre films taking Thursday off

There is no movie scheduled this Thursday in the free, outdoor summer offerings at the Kay Theatre.

Movies resume with “Footloose” Thursday, July 15.

Movies will be shown 15 minutes after dark.

Free hot dogs will be provided by Rockdale Welding Supply.

The screenings are used as fund-raisers in ongoing efforts to restore the 1940s-era Quonset hut structure.

Appraisal district slates budget hearing

CAMERON—The Milam County Appraisal District board of directors will hold a budget hearing at 12:10 p.m. July 15 in the MCAD office, 120 North Houston in Cameron.

The proposed fiscal 2011 budget lists total expenditures of $715,408, an increase of $15,147 over last year’s budget, according to Chief Appraiser Pat Moraw.

She said no personnel changes are called for with the MCAD staff to remain at nine.

Bake sale to benefit ‘Special Needs Fun Day’

A bake sale to raise funds for the upcoming 2010 Specia l Needs Fun Day w ill be held f rom 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at Walmart, according to Teresa Mireles, spokesperson.

Special Needs Fun Day is an annual outing to commemorate children with special needs and their caretakers.

ARB continues tax protest hearings

CA MERON—The appraisal review board is continuing its weekly tax protest hearings Tuesday at the MCAD office in Cameron.

Chief Appraiser Pat Moraw said the session will begin at 8:15 a.m.

Additional agenda items include appraisal records, applications for late protests, a chief appraisers’ report and other pending matters.

Monthly flushing ahead on July 14th

The City of Rockdale will hold its regular monthly water line flushing overnight Wednesday, July 14, according to City Manager Kelvin Knauf.

Lines on both east and west sides will be flushed, he said.

“Upon arising the next morning, please run your cold water taps a few minutes until the stream runs clear,” he said.
