Landis

Services for Luther J. Landis, 92, of Pearland, formerly of Rockdale, were held Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial was in Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Mr. Landis died Thursday, July 1, in Houston.

He was born Feb. 16, 1918, in the Pleasant Hill community to Charles H. and Isabel (McCarty) Landis.

The family moved to Rockdale where he spent most of his childhood.

Mr. Landis was a 1937 graduate of Rockdale High School and took four years of agriculture which cultivated his love of gardening and growing. He attended Texas A&M University for one year.

Mr. Landis owned and operated a garage for a short time in Rockdale.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio from August 1940 until June 1941.

Mr. Landis moved to Houston during World War II and worked in several area ship-building yards.

He attended the University of Houston for three years, studying diesel engineering.

He married Linda Trent on Dec. 25, 1958.

Mr. Landis worked for Lane Wells, S.I.E., Dresser Ind. and Frazier Inc., mostly in oil exploration and production. He retired in 1984 from Frazier Inc. after 20 years as production supervisor.

He moved to Pearland in 2006 and enjoyed passing on stories and history of his family.

Mr. Landis attended Christadelphian Houston Ecclesia.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Landis, on March 2, 2008; his parents; seven siblings; two sons, Jimmy Landis and Wayne Landis; and a daughter, Janice Bradford.

Survivors are three sons, Tommy Landis and wife Judy, Jerald Landis and wife Tori, Donald Landis and wife Denice, all of Pearland; a brother, Cullin H. Landis of Conroe; and a sister, Billie Jean Clements of Spring; son-in-law Mike Bradford and daughter-in-law Vicky Landis; also, 13 grandchildren, 15 greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews

Pallbearers were Michael Landis, Josh Landis, Tommy Landis, Andy Bradford, Benny Bradford, Jeff Landis and Timothy Landis.
