Sunshine quilters to meet July 22

Sunshine n’ Shadows Quilt Guild will meet at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 22 at Meadowbrook Baptist Church. Visitors are welcome, according to Eddie Davidson, publicist.

Genealogy workshop set here August 28

Milam County Genealogical Society will be hosting a genealogy workshop from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28. Lynna Kay Shuffield will present two classes, “Genealogy Research & Computers” (morning) and “Texas Historic Cemetery Designations” (afternoon).

The workshop will be held at the Milam County Genealogy Research Center at the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library, 201 Ackerman Street, Rockdale. Donation: $5 per person. Lunch will be provided. Participants bring your laptop and work along with the instructor if they wish (tables and electric plugs provided).

Town & Country Club supports MARC Center

THORNDALE—The Thorndale Town & Country Club helped the Rockdale MARC Center clients celebrate July 4th on July 2 with firecracker surprise treats, U. S. flags and ice cream floats.

Club members provided firecrackers with assorted candies while a member of the Throndale VFW gave each client a small U.S. Flag. Big Red ice cream floats were served. The club has been providing this community service for the MARC Center for several years.

Recent club meetings:

May 27—Laura Locklin, hostess, displayed a photo coaster set, a King’s chair from Africa, hand-made flower pens, wooden wine bottle holder, puzzle pin, a cup-and-saucer set, her 50th anniversary photo and her family memory quilt. Mrs. Locklin served chicken, garden salad, a vegetable tray and cake.

June 10—Lanette Tucker, hostess, featured a game of “What have you been up to this week” with home-made gifts for all. Guests: Logan Lincoln, Kayla Smith, Cathy Sweasea, Doris Kiesling, Elyne Lehmann, Betty Bittner. The hostess displayed her quilts and quilting expertise and served a variety of sweets, chips and dips.

June 24—Betty Ballew, hostess. A program on honeybees was presented by Allen Ballew. A gift of honey was given to each club member and guests Danielle Pedroza, Chloe Tucker and Kayla Smith. Mrs. Ballew served refreshments.

Next meeting will be Thursday, Aug. 12, Daisy Tucker, hostess. The club will travel to Taylor July 22.—Darleen Tucker, secretary

7-day cruise will boost Milano scholarship fund

MILANO—The Milano Ex-Students Association scholarship committee has set Feb. 6-13, 2011 as the date for the scholarship fund-raiser cruise. The 7-day cruise includes stops in Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel will bring $140 to the scholarship fund for every cabin sold. First deposit of $50 per person is due July 15.
