Roddam named first team all-state
Despite her team’s unimpressive record, voters around the state took notice of her personal accomplishments as Rockdale shortstop Kassie Roddam was named first team All-State in Class 3A by the Texas Sports Writers Association.
Roddam, who was a thirdteam pick in 2009, becomes Rockdale’s seventh first-team all-state softball performer and fourth at shortstop.
She joins her first cousin Rainey Eanes who was named to the team in both 1999 and 2000.
Kaitlynne Schnerr was a selection in 2007 and Toni Ellis in 2005 and 2006.
Roddam beat out some stiff competition for the honor, including Princeton’s Jordan Strickland (.527, 44 RBI) and Cadie Weaver of Splendora (.546, 41 RBI).
In her senior year, Roddam hit .516, scored 44 runs, banged out 48 hits and led the state in stolen bases in a runaway with 59.
She led the Lady Tigers to a 17-16 mark and their first playoff victory since 2006. They were knocked out of the playoffs by Huffman-Hargrave in the second round.
In her career, Roddam leaves Rockdale w ith a plethora of school records—both career and season—including runs scored, hits and of course stolen bases.
Roddam swiped 113 bases in her career, which included 106 in a row. She went almost three years without being thrown out. While not known as an RBI producer
from her leadoff
spot, Roddam drove
home six runs against
Madisonville this past season—a school record.
Roddam has chosen
not to pursue her softball career in college.
Former Rockdale resident
Jessica Parish was also
named to the first team as a shortstop for Lexington on the Class 2A team.
Parish, who will play at East Texas Baptist in college, fashioned a .519 batting average with nine home runs and 54 runs batted in.
