THORNDALE--At the monthly meeting of the Texas Master Naturalist, El Camino Real Chapter, on July 8 at the Thorndale Chamber of Commerce, Bobbie W. Mayer presented chapter president Katherine Bedrich a $150 check donation for the Frances Nabours Griffin Bird Sanctuary.

The bird sanctuary was recently dedicated in June at the Nature Festival held at the Wilson-Ledbetter Park in Cameron. At the dedication, a painting by Mayer was revealed and given to the Griffin family in commemoration of the event by the Master Naturalists and the artist. Prints of the dedication painting were then pre-sold at the Nature Festival, only a limited number of prints were created from this order.

At the meeting, Mayer gave her appreciation to the group for allowing her to compose a painting. She also reflected on her visits with the late Frances Griffin and her friendship with the Griffin family. She remarked on the importance of the continuation and promotion of the bird sanctuary, “I hope this (donation) will allow you all to move forward. What a huge project this is, but what a worthy cause.”

Anyone interested in purchasing one of the few remaining prints, please contact Bobbie Mayer at ccbmayer@aol. com or at 361-205-0760. An artist signed print is $50 and an unsigned print is $30.

Mayer is a 1997 graduate of C. H. Yoe High School and a 2003 graduate of Texas State University with a bachelor of art in Art with a focus in Art His- tory and a minor in German. She traveled Germany, Austria and Switzerland, with the University’s Study Abroad program. And Mayer continued her education with subsequent trips through the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.
