Concert raises over $3,000 for church

Reporter/Mike Brown Rising Star Baptist Church’s Workshop Choir held its second “Gospel Explosion” Saturday at the Institute for Teaching God’s Word, drawing a crowd of 200 and raising more than $3,000 for the church’s building program.

The new church is going up at the end of Texas Street, across the street from the current sanctuary.

“It’s a build as we go project,” L. C. Richards, church spokesman, said. “The money raised Saturday is going toward the roof and siding.”

The choir is directed by Carol Smith of Longview, who also accompanied the group and served as a soloist.

Guest soloist for five numbers was Dr. Vanessa Beaumont, mezzo-soprano, of Round Rock. Accompanist was Pastor Fred Warren of Hutto’s Little Ebenezer Baptist Church.

There was also a performance by the Rising Star Praise Dancers.

• “He Won’t Fail You,” lead soloist, Ernest Russell.

• “I’ve Got a Testimony,” lead soloist, Richards.

• “Be Still and Know I Am God,” lead soloist, D’Annia Deadrick.

• “It’s Your Season,” lead soloist, Joyce Ford.

• “Look Where the Lord Has Brought Me From,” lead soloist, Smith.

• “God is Keeping Me,” lead soloist, Rev. Johnson.
