Rah-rah camp at Milano HS
The monthly Milano Opry is set for Saturday, July 17 at the Milano High School cafetorium with doors opening at 6 p.m. and the show starting at 7. Admission is $5 and children 10 and under are free. Headliners this month are Rian and Riley Castillo from Elgin and special guests are Priscilla Speed from Staples, Mark Faila from Anderson and Sophie Thomason from Rockdale.
House band members are Billy Barnett, Glenn Schneider, Larry Rochelle, John Clark Towslee, Gary Beard, Mark Faila and Lynn Martin. The Bailey Bank Building Committee will serve barbecue plates with meat prepared by Circle J BBQ of Gause and sides prepared by the Bailey Bank Building group, along with their homemade pies.
Costs of the barbecue plates are $8, which includes brisket, sausage, beans, potato salad and cole slaw. Drinks and pies will also be for sale.
The Milano Junction Girls softball team are state bound. The girls, who play in the Rockdale league, won that league and then won their district tournament last week in Jarrell. They are getting ready for the state tournament next week in Mineola and they need the community’s help in raising some funds.
On Friday, July 16 there will be an auction at The Ranch in Rockdale starting at 7 p.m. There is also a silent auction scheduled at the Milano Opry on Saturday, July 17 starting at 7 p.m. Let’s get out and show these young ladies our support as they represent our city of Milano.
Mi la no Un ite d Met hod i st Church will hold their Galactic Blast Vacation Bible School from 9 a.m. to noon, July 19–23. The final program is set for 6 p.m. on July 22 and July 23 will be a play day for the children. For information contact Carol Brooks (512-455-2279) or Carol Newman (512-455-2041).
A summer volleyball camp is scheduled for July 26-29 for girls entering fifth through seventh grades. The camp will be held from 9 a.m. until noon at the Milano High School gym. Registration is $40.
We extend our sympathy to the family of Elaine McKinney, my neighbor. Elaine passed away July 8 after a short illness. She was a retired school teacher (31 years) and enjoyed doing arts and crafts. Services were held July 12 at Heartfield-Ritter Funeral Home in Hearne with burial on July 13 at Grove Hill Cemetery in Dallas.
We also extend our sympathy to the Gary Vinton family on the passing of his aunt, Carrie Boggens of Hearne. She is also a sister to Dorothy Nelson. Boggens’ services were held Tuesday in Hearne.
Auction items are still needed for Kristi’s Krusaders first annual Rally for the Walk (Walk MS 2010) set for Saturday, Aug. 7 at Nat’s near Milano. The event will include a bike run, auctions, pool and horseshoe tournaments, music and barbecue for sale. Kristi’s Krusaders is headed by Kristi Ditto Bode, a Milano graduate who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) almost two years ago.
Kristi’s Krusaders are raising money for this fall’s Walk MS 2010. All proceeds will help fund MS research. Family and friends enjoyed surprising Catrina Lagrone Steinbecker for her 40th birthday a month early. Having it early was the only way she wouldn’t have figured out the surprise. All the fun was in Gause at the home of Jan and Leroy Willard.
