Milano Opry set for Saturday run

MILANO—The Milano Opry will be held on Saturday, July 17 at the Milano High School Auditorium. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and show starts at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 (children age 10 and under free).

Show headliners are Rian and Riley Castillo from Elgin and special guests are Priscilla Speed of Staples, Mark Faila from Anderson and Sophie Thomason from Rockdale.

House band members are Billy Barnett on steel, Glenn Schneider on bass, Larry Rochelle on drums, John Clark Towslee on lead guitar, Gary Beard on fiddle, Mark Faila on rhythm quitar and Lynn Martin with vocals.

The Bailey Bank Building Committee will serve BBQ plates, meat prepared by Circle J BBQ of Gause and sides prepared by the Bailey Bank Building group, along with their home-made pies. BBQ plates are $8 and includes brisket, sausage, beans, potato salad and cole slaw. Drinks and pies will also be for sale. For more information call 979-209-4563.

Youth football, cheer signup here Saturday

Rockdale Youth Football & Cheer will hold sign-ups at the City Park Saturday, July 17 from 9 a.m. until noon. Football registration is $80 for JV and varsity plus a $100 returnable deposit for equipment. Flag registration is $55. Copy of birth certificate and last report card required. Sunshine quilters to meet July 22

Sunshine n’ Shadows Quilt Guild will meet at 9:30 a.m. ..Thursda y, Ju ly 22 at Meadowbrook Baptist Church. Visitors are welcome, according to Eddie Davidson, publicist.

Genealogy workshop set here August 28

Milam County Genealogical Society will be hosting a genealogy workshop from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28. Lynna Kay Shuffield will present two classes, “Genealogy Research & Computers” (morning) and “Texas Historic Cemetery Designations” (afternoon).

The workshop will be held at the Milam County Genealogy Research Center at the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Librar y, 201 Ackerman Street, Rockdale. Donation: $5 per person. Lunch will be provided. Participants bring your laptop and work along with the instructor if they wish (tables and electric plugs provided).
