2010 season bearing down on Tigers
It is 44 days until the Rockdale Tiger football team will tee it up for the first time versus Austin Eastside Memorial, but the date for preparing for that moment is growing nearer.
Equipment will be issued at the field house on Monday, Aug. 2, beginning at 7 a.m. sharp.
That will be followed by the first day of practice which is set to begin at 8 a.m. and continue until noon.
Beginning the next day, Tuesday, Aug. 3, practice will be held from 7 to 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. until noon
The practice of Aug. 6 will mark the Tigers’ first practice in full pads.
While the opening day of the regular season is Friday, Aug. 27, when the Tigers will host Austin Eastside Memorial for the 7:30 kickoff, Rockdale has a couple of scrimmages set up before then.
The Tigers w ill host Elgin on Saturday, Aug. 14 at noon for their first scrimmage and then will travel to Robinson on Thursday, Aug. 19 for a 7 p.m. three-way scrimmage with the Rockets and Lexington.
The annual “Meet the Tigers” social and cake auction will take place Monday, Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. in Tiger Gymnasium.
Rockdale, 8-3 in 2009, is picked 5th in the brand new District 23-3A.
Volleyball Volleyball is set to start on August 2 as well.
All participants must bring their own t-shirt and shorts for the first few days.
Workouts will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. This schedule will continue through Aug. 6.
Second-year coach Jason Williams encourages everyone to arrive 15 minutes early.
A high school volleyball parents meeting will be held Thursday, Aug. 5 at 6 p.m. at the high school gym.
The Lady Tigers will scrimmage on August 6 at Luling and then open the season by traveling to Lexington on Tuesday, August 10 for a 5 p.m. match.
A volleyball camp will be held July 26-29 from 9 to 11 a.m. in in the high school gym. The cost for the camp is $75 and must be turned in by July 22.
If you are going to participate in Rockdale High School football, volleyball or cross-country this coming school year in grades 9-12, you must have all the required UIL and RISD medical forms turned in to the athletic office by Wednesday, July 28.
Students going into grades 9 and 11 must have a new physical examination and the four page “yellow form” packet.
Students going into the 10th and 12th grades only need to complete the “yellow form” packet if they already have a physical exam on-file from last year.
These medical forms may be picked up from the RISD Athletic office on Murray at Tiger Stadium. Football and volleyball practices begin on the morning of Monday, August 2.
Junior high football and volleyball athletes need their medical forms turned-in by Wednesday, Aug. 18.
New 7th grade athletes will need both the physical exam and the “yellow form” packet, while returning 8th grade athletes only need the “yellow form” packet.
RHS athletes other than football, volleyball or cross country need their medical forms turnedin the first week of school.
Physicals Physicals will be administered on Saturday, July 31, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Rockdale Junior High Gym for grades 7, 9 and 11.
Cost will be $15.
Students getting a physical exam need to have the medical history form already completed when they arrive at RJH.
Forms were handed out at the end of the school year but those needing forms can pick them up at the Rockdale Athletic office.
Rockdale Junior High football and volleyball players can begin picking up their equipment on Friday, Aug. 20 with practices to begin on Tuesday, Aug. 24.
Football equipment will be issued on Friday, Aug. 20 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. for eighth graders, while the seventh graders can receive their equipment from 10 to 11:30 p.m.
Junior high players may purchase their own football cleats, but they must be black.
Practices begin Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 7 to 8:59 a.m. for seventh graders and at 2:51 to 4:30 p.m. for eighth graders.
Volleyball equipment will also be handed out on Friday, Aug. 20 for the eighth graders from 8 to 9 a.m. and the seventh graders from 9 to 10 a.m.
Practices begin Tuesday, Aug. 24.
Seventh graders will practice from 6:45 to 8:59 a.m. and eighth graders from 3:40 to 5 p.m.
All athletes must have physicals and other paper work turned in and on file to participate and get their equipment.
Tickets Advanced reserved seat foot- ball tickets for previous season ticket holders will be sold at the athletic office on Aug. 2-5, Aug. 9-12 and Aug. 16 and 17 from 8 a.m. to noon.
If you would like to be placed on the waiting list for tickets, please call the athletic office at 430-6150 between 8 a.m. and noon.
Beginning Monday Aug. 23, anyone else wanting to purchase reserve seat season tickets may do so in the athletic office from 8 a.m. to noon.
The cost of season tickets will be $30 for six home games.
According to head coach Jeff Miller, picture day/press day for RHS football and athletic trainers has been set for Saturday, Aug. 7 beginning at 9 a.m. at Tiger Field.
Mom and son pictures will also be taken.
Volleyball pictures will be taken the same day at 8 a.m. in RHS Gymnasium.
On Friday August 27, the Tiger football team will recognize the Aycock High School athletes on the 55th anniverary of the Purple Tigers capturing state championships in both football and basketball in the same school year.
After a reception at the high school at 5 p.m., the players will be introduced before the Rockdale-Austin Eastside Memorial contest.
Aycock players are asked to contact Athletic Director Jeff Miller if they plan to attend at 430-6150.
