Dr. John M. Weed III, who last month stepped down as president of the Rockdale Hospital District Board of Directors, resigned from the board last Wednesday. He will continue his medical practice.

The world of food lost one of its great artisans Friday when Gilbert Schroeder passed away at age 87. away at age 87.
Mr. Schroeder had been grilling hamburgers himself for over 50 years years after taking over for his wife Irene: the same man on the same cast iron grill.

School supply, fan drives now under way
It is time again for school supply collection. School starts this year on Aug. 23 and the VFW Post 6525 and VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary will again sponsor the collection.
You can bring your school supplies to the Chamber or take them by the VFW. The giveaway will be held Friday, Aug. 13. We also need volunteers to help with the giveaway. Full Story

Jobless rate jumps to 10.8%
Milam County’s jobless rate rose three-tenths of a percent in June to 10.8 percent. That showed a jump from 10.5 percent in May and the rate is the same as in June 2009, the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) reported.
The county’s rate was based on a labor force of 11,262 with 10,044 working and 1,218 unemployed. Full Story
