Reporter/Mike Brown Reporter/Mike Brown The monthly free Capital Area Food Bank’s surplus food distribution at Rockdale’s former Walmart-HEB parking lot unveiled a new date of visit and a larger truck on Thursday and the result was the biggest turnout yet. Volunteer Doug Williams said an unofficial estimate indicated 220 persons were served, an increase of about 10 percent from previous months. “We had a really good turnout of volunteer helpers,” Williams said. The distribution is now set for 9-10 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

If you missed it, Rockdale Christian Fellowship at the north end of Burleson Street will host a free food distribution at 9 a.m. Friday at the church. Ralph and Denise Sifuentes, spokespersons, said recipients must bring valid identification to each distribution at the church. The church will also host distributions Aug. 27 and Sept. 24.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
