Summer band gets under way July 29th

Acevedo Acevedo Rockdale High School’s Big Blue Band summer practices start July 29 and Aug. 2, according to new director Adrian Acevedo.

Acevedo said freshmen, the band leadership team, color guard and drum line will meet at the band hall at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, July 29.

That meeting will last until 11:30 a.m. and will also include a marching session in the Tiger Field parking lot.

The same four groups will meet at the same times on Friday, July 30.

Acevedo said the full band will meet for the first time at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2.

That will also be an 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. session in the band hall and football field parking lot, he said.

That day will also include a 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. practice session.

Acevedo listed the summer band schedule, up to the first day of classes Aug. 23, as follows:

July 29-30— 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., freshmen, leadership team, color guard, drum line, band hall/practice field.

Aug. 2-6— 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., full band, band hall/practice field; 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., sectionals, band hall/practice field.

Aug. 9— 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., full band, band hall/practice field.

Aug. 10-12— 5 to 7 p.m., full band, band hall/practice field.

Aug. 13— 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., full band, band hall/practice field; 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., sectionals, band hall/practice field.

Aug. 16-20— 5 to 7 p.m. full band, band hall/practice field.

Acevedo said the tentative schedule for sectionals is brass on Tuesdays, woodwinds on Wednesdays and percussion and color guard on Thursdays.
