McCoy

Celebration of Life services for Laura Ann McCoy, 87, were held Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Resthaven Funeral Home’s Abbey Chapel in Lubbock with Bro. James Whitehead officiating. Interment followed at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Mrs. McCoy died on Sunday, July 11, with her son at her side. She was a residence in the Manor Oak Nursing Home in Rockdale.

She born Oct. 14, 1922, in Henderson to Edgar and Aurisha Rainey.

Mrs. McCoy grew up in Frankston and married Jason Ross on Jan. 11, 1939.

They moved to the West Texas area and lived in Shamrock and Hale Center before settling in Lubbock in 1968 to become house parents for the Coronado Children’s Home. They took care of as many as 14 children at one period.

She remarried in 1982 to Timothy Tarzan McCoy. They lived together in Lubbock until his death in 2000.

Mrs. McCoy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Timothy Tarzan McCoy; three brothers, George Rainey, Oscar Rainey, Leo Rainey; two sisters, Arleatha Pettygrew and Katie Nell Rainey; and a brother, Edgar Lee Rainey Jr.

Survivors are a brother, Lonzo Rainey; two sisters, Janie Wilson and Argie Fulton; her children, Jimmie Smith, Iris Powell, Janice Westbrook, Michael Brassfield, Brenda Harper, Wayne Lee Foster, Joe White and Tonya White; grandchildren Trenetta Powell, Charonda Whaley, Jayson Allan Rainey, Micah and Michael Brassfield II, Anthony Lee, twins Eric and Derick, and twins Kevin and Devin; also, eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
