Equipment pickup drawing nearer

Players will be issued gear on Aug. 2

It is 37 days until the Rockdale Tiger football team will tee it up for the first time versus Austin Eastside Memorial, but the date for preparing for that moment is growing nearer.

Equipment will be issued at the field house on Monday, Aug. 2, beginning at 7 a.m. sharp.

That will be followed by the first day of practice which is set to begin at 8 a.m. and continue until noon.

Beginning the next day, Tuesday, Aug. 3, practice will be held from 7 to 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. until noon.

The practice of Aug. 6 will mark the Tigers’ first practice in full pads.

While the opening day of the regular season is Friday, Aug. 27, when the Tigers will host Austin Eastside Memorial for the 7:30 kickoff, Rockdale has a couple of scrimmages set up before then.

The Tigers w ill host Elgin on Saturday, Aug. 14 at noon for their first scrimmage and then will travel to Robinson on Thursday, Aug. 19 for a 7 p.m. three-way scrimmage with the Rockets and Lexington.

The annual “Meet the Tigers” social and cake auction will take place Monday, Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. in Tiger Gymnasium.

Rockdale, 8-3 in 2009, is picked 5th in the brand new District 23-3A.

Volleyball Volleyball is set to start on August 2 as well.

All participants must bring their own t-shirt and shorts for the first few days.

Workouts will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. This schedule will continue through Aug. 6.

Second-year coach Jason Williams encourages everyone to arrive 15 minutes early.

A high school volleyball parents meeting will be held Thursday, Aug. 5 at 6 p.m. at the high school gym.

The Lady Tigers will scrimmage on August 6 at Luling and then open the season by traveling to Lexington on Tuesday, August 10 for a 5 p.m. match.

A volleyball camp will be held July 26-29 from 9 to 11 a.m. in he high school gym. The cost for the camp is $75 and must be turned in by July 22.

Medical forms

If you are going to participate in Rockdale High School football, volleyball or cross-country this coming school year in grades 9-12, you must have all the required UIL and RISD medical forms turned in to the athletic office by Wednesday, July 28.

Students going into grades 9 and 11 must have a new physical examination and the four page “yellow form” packet.

Students going into the 10th and 12th grades only need to complete the “yellow form” packet if they already have a physical exam on-file from last year.

These medical forms may be picked up from the RISD Athletic office on Murray at Tiger Stadium. Football and volleyball practices begin on the morning of Monday, August 2.

Junior high football and volleyball athletes need their medical forms turned-in by Wednesday, Aug. 18.

New 7th grade athletes will need both the physical exam and the “yellow form” packet, while returning 8th grade athletes only need the “yellow form” packet.

RHS athletes other than football, volleyball or cross country need their medical forms turnedin the first week of school.

Physicals

Physicals will be administered on Saturday, July 31, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Rockdale Junior High Gym for grades 7, 9 and 11.
