Leadership Milam taking applications for 2010-11 course

Applications are now being taken for the 2010-2011 Leadership Milam Class to begin in September. This is the second year for this innovative program that is designed to foster a county wide understanding of the leadership needs and opportunities while at the same time building relationships among the members of each Leadership Milam Class.

The project envisions growing a population of citizens across the county ready and willing to assume leadership roles, whether in business or public service, where their experience in this program affords them both an appreciation of the opportunities across the county and the relationships to achieve remarkable outcomes.

Ron Montgomery of Rockdale Federal Credit Union and a member of last year’s class said the program is a “wonderful opportunity to learn to use innovative ideas with a focus on collaborative efforts to achieve results; great networking with peers; opportunity to help improve Milam County.”

Michael Watkins, realtor and Cameron ISD trustee said, “Being a part of the Leadership Milam enabled me to see the big picture of Milam County, from its cultural and economical diversity to its rich tradition and historical significances. Milam County leadership program developed an increased awareness of my responsibility to step up and do my part to promote, proclaim and protect our interest as citizens of Milam County.”

Casey Callahan, Thorndale ISD superintendent, said, “great opportunities to develop relationships with stakeholders in Milam County, allowing for a better future for all of Milam County.”

Applications may be found at the Cameron Chamber website at cameron tx.com and at the Rockdale Chamber at 1203 W. Cameron.

Cost of the class is $200 and the applicants will be chosen by a committee. Applications are due by Aug. 2 and the class members will be contacted by Aug. 6. The first meeting will be Sept. 17. This is a monthly meeting every 3rd Thursday of each month with different emphases about the County, from information on education, economics, city and county government, state government (which involves a trip to the capitol), agriculture, and other topics.
