Work under way at east-side Sumuel Park

We had a great day on Friday as a group of about 25 people worked together to get the Sumuel Park project started. We mowed, raked, pruned and pulled weeds and doing it with a group made it very enjoyable. The community project is the best kind and we are moving forward with the park.

Before very long we will start seeing some real improvements on the park with the playscape, basketball court and picnic areas. If you would like to be included in the fun call the chamber and you too can help.

New restaurant name

This Thursday, July 29 we will have a ribbon cutting at 6:30 p.m. for Julio’s Mexican Restaurant formerly El Torito’s—new name, same great quality of food.

There will be a free buffet from 5-8 p.m. and a DJ playing from 7-10 p.m. Come out and join the fun as we help Julio celebrate his restaurant’s new name. He also serves lunch specials every day starting at $4.99 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Fan, school drives

We are continuing to collect fans for the needy and we appreciate the donations we have received so far. If you would like to donate a fan just bring it by the Chamber at 1203 W. Cameron.

We are also working on the school supply collection. The VFW Post 6525 and the Ladies’ Auxiliary will be sponsoring the giveaway again. If you would like to donate you can take your items by the VFW any day after 2 p.m. or bring them by the Chamber.

There will be a collection on Aug. 3 at Walmart from 6-8 p.m. The giveaway will be held on Friday, Aug. 13 from 1-3 p.m. at the VFW on Hwy 79.

Garage sale ahead

Before we know it the Community Wide Garage Sale will be here. We have started taking names for the map so if you are having a sale this year call the Chamber at 446-2030 to get on the map. Cost is $5 for chamber members and $7 for non-members. This is always a great time in Rockdale with a lot of out of town visitors coming to shop our sales. Call today to get your name on the map.
