Local Marine dies Sunday in California

Ogea Ogea U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant Adam Ogea, a 1999 Rockdale High School graduate, was found dead in his quarters Sunday at El Centro, California.

His unit, Marine F-18 Fighter Squadron 533, based at Beaufort Marine Corps Air Station in South Carolina, was in California for fighter training exercises.

Sgt. Ogea, who joined the Marines in 2000, was an avionics (commu n ic at ion s and navigation electronics) specialist. He had completed one deployment to Iraq, three to Japan and others that were classified.

A military investigation into the death was continuing Tuesday in California.

Sgt. Ogea’s parents, Billy and Anita Ogea of Rockdale, said they have been told their son’s body would be released Thursday at the earliest, upon completion of the NCIS investigation.

A rrangements are pending at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

In addition to his parents, Sgt. Ogea is survived by his wife Shannon Ogea, a former Marine and now a civilian contractor on base at Virginia Beach, Virginia; their daughter, Kaylee Addison Ogea, age 4; a sister, Amy Ogea Casas and husband Jessie of Bryan; and grandparents, Leo and LuNan Ogea of Rockdale and Willemina Minster of Lindale.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
