Fund-raiser, BBQ, bike run Saturday in Milano

MILANO–A full day of fundraising is planned on Saturday, Aug. 7 at Kristi’s Krusaders first ever Rally for the Walk (Walk MS 2010) at Nat’s in Milano. The event will include a bike run, auctions, pool and horseshoe tournaments, music and barbecue.

“The first bike will go out at 10 a.m. and $20 will take you on a beautiful ride through the Milam County area and be entered in drawings for great prizes,” organizer Kristi Bode said. Maps for the bike ride will be available when the ride begins.

Kristi’s Krusaders is headed by Bode, a 1996 Milano High School graduate. She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) almost two years ago. She, along with members of Kristi’s Krusaders are raising money for this fall’s Walk MS 2010. All proceeds from the benefit will help fund research to find a cure for MS.

“I was told when I was just a little girl that God does not give you more than you can handle, and I know that I have been tested a lot through my life and will be tested even more in the future,” Bode said. “So if me having this disease was meant to help fund the research necessary to deter it for future generations, yours as well as mine I will gladly accept that challenge.”

Barbecue plates will be available at noon for $7 for eat in or carry out. Event T-shirts will be sold for $20 and live and silent auctions are also planned. Items are still being collected for the auctions and can be brought to the event Saturday morning.

A pool tourney and a horseshoe tournament are planned during the day, Bode said.

Danny Hernandez of Car-Tunes DJ Service will provide music starting at 5 p.m.
