Development district board eyes more seats
City of Rockdale is accepting applications from citizens interested in serving on the Municipal Development District board of directors. Seven members will be selected to serve two-year terms.
Deadline for submission is 5 p.m. Sept. 1. The city council will interview and take action on potential candidates at a special session called for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9 at City Hall. Full Story

ARC blood drive set Tuesday at St. Joseph’s
American Red Cross has set its next local blood drive for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Fellowship Hall, 234 San Gabriel Street.

Cowboy Church youth rodeo this weekend
Milam County Cowboy Church will put on a youth rodeo Friday and Saturday at the Rockdale Roping & Cutting Club’s Fair Park Arena.
Action begins each night at 7:30 p.m. and will include steer riding and calf riding, timed events barrel racing, pole bending, straightaway barrels and all calf- and team-roping events. Full Story

Trustees hire two, take annual facilities tour
Rockdale ISD trustees met briefly Tuesday morning and hired two teachers before heading on their annual tour of school facilities.
Hired were Samuel Clark for high school social studies/coaching staff, and Mindy Miller as a junior-high science teacher. Full Story
Thorndale ISD slates hearing on tax rate
THORNDALE—School trustees in Thorndale met Monday and scheduled a public budget-tax rate hearing for 8 p.m. Aug. 23 in the district board room.
Supt. Casey Callahan said a $1.315 tax rate, same as the current rate, is proposed.
Board members approved additional 2010-11 transfer students and okayed the district’s certified tax roll. Full Story
Cemetery cleanup set Saturday near Milano
A “Good Samaritan” has come forth to assist in the cleanup of a Milano-area cemetery which was recently the subject of a photo and plea in The Reporter.

Back-to-school immunization clinics each Monday through Thurs- day in both Rockdale and Cameron during the month of August.
Patsy Gaines, Milam County Health Unit director, said additional staff has been hired for August enabling both health department units to stay open four days a week. Full Story
